We are recognized as SIRO (Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India since 1986.
The Research Society’s SKP MIND’S College of Special Education is:
- affiliated to University of Mumbai for its B.Ed course and
- Manipal University for its Diploma course.
- We are also recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India.
- recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education since 1998
Awards
The Research Society has received :
- "The National Award in the field of ‘Welfare of the Handicapped" - in 1990 given by the Government of India.
- Platinum Jubilee Endowment Trust Award in 1984 by The Indian Merchants Chamber for our 'Outstanding Contribution to the Society in the Field of Mental Retardation'.
- National Technology Award in the field of Welfare of the Handicapped (Mentally handicapped) for the invention of the JAI LOOM – a one hand operating weaving machine, by the Government of India, in 1991.
- Best State Nodal Agency in 2005 by Government of India's - National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities.
- Our SKP Mind’s College was awarded 'Excellent' accredited status by The Rehabilitation Council of India in 2009.
Individuals who have been awarded:
Mrs. Jai Hormusjee Vakeel, (Founder of Jai Vakeel School for Children in Need of Special Care, Mumbai), has been awarded
- the Padmashree in April 1976.
- the Dalit Mitra Award by Government of Maharashtra in 1975.
- the Best Worker Award – and received the Ram Kamal Sinhamemorial Medal from Alkendu Bodh Niketan, Calcutta, for 'Outstanding Services Rendered to the Retarded' in 1978.
- the Naseoh's N.D.Diwan Memorial Award, posthumously in recognition of 'The Untiring Services' rendered to the disabled -1981.
Mrs. T.D Shroff
- awarded the "Seva Ratna" Award, 7th Sahyadri Navratna Puraskar in 2008
- "Zoroastrian Unity Worldwide" by the World Zoroastrian Organization, India
- was felicitated by the Office of the Divisional Social Welfare, Government of Maharashtra, on the occasion of the International Women's Day in 1988.
Ms. Vidya Redkar, student of Jai Vakeel Vocational Training Centre, represented India at the Sixth International Abhilympics in 2003
- Second prize in Ikebana Flower Arrangement.
- She also represented India in the International Special Olympics held in China for Basket Ball in 2007. The Team stood second.
Mr. Candido Crasto, student of 'Jai Vakeel Vocational Training Centre' was awarded the "National Award for the Best Handicapped Employee" in 2006
Mrs. Roshan Master, a senior teacher was awarded "Late Shri B. J. Modi Foundation Award in 2008" for her 'Outstanding Voluntary Services in the Rehabilitation of Disabled People' by NASEOH, India.
Mrs. Veena Dalvi was awarded 'Kum Ranna Ashok Modi Award for Best Vocational Instructor for Disabled in 2009' by National Society for Equal Opportunities for the Handicapped (NASEOH), India.
Candido Crasto, Marukh Balsara & Indira Shinde – awarded Government of India's National Award To The Most Outstanding Handicapped Employee- was awarded to three of our ex-mentally challenged students working in the Private Sector in Mumbai –in 1990 & 1991.
