USP Of Our Institute:
- We have no minimum IQ requirement. Even the most profoundly challenged child is admitted to our Institute.
- Almost 40% of our students are from the lower socio economic strata (15% are at or below poverty line). But no one gets denied help due to his or her financial condition.
- The youngest child coming to us for therapy is 3 months old and the oldest lady in our Vocational Centre is 70 years old.
- We have 250 very dedicated and hard working staff, with a very low turn over ratio. Average duration that the staff spends at the Institute is 15 yrs.
- All facilities for a mentally challenged person are available on one campus, which is a great boon for parents of a handicapped child.
- Our teacher-training institute was the first in India.
- The Aditya Birla Sheltered Workshop and Rehabilitation Centre set up in 2002 was the first Sheltered Workshop of its kind. Till date it is the largest in India.
- In 1948 we introduced integrated dance & drama as a form of therapeutic activity. Many of our children participated in a stage show organised by The Teachers Academy and even the main character of Cinderella was played by our child.
- In 1948 we also introduced ‘Sports’ for our children with all the items and activities performed in regular schools.
- In appreciation of the pioneering work done by our Institute the Government gave us a grant in aid in 1965 and are supporting us till date.
- In 2003 our children participated and won several prizes at the international event Abiolympics – ability Olympics, when it was held in India for the first time, and we have participated in every subsequent event held every 4 years.
